Rapid population growth and a high disease burden have strained health systems in Kenya and contributed to poor outcomes. The country has one of the higher rates of maternal mortality and needs to expand capacity to meet growing demand for affordable healthcare.
Solution and Impact
Through financing to the Evercare Health Fund, DFC is supporting the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, which provides more than 400,000 outpatient and 140,000 inpatient visits per year. Originally launched as a hospital for women, the facility is now a full-service hospital group that provides almost 600 beds across nine facilities that provide comprehensive, quality and affordable care to men and women. The Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC) is the charitable trust of The Nairobi Women’s Hospital. GVRC’s supports survivors and families of sexual and gender based violence and helps 40,000 survivors every year with free medical treatment and psychosocial support.
