Deputy Chief of Staff
Austin Smith serves as Deputy Chief of Staff of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
Mr. Smith previously served as the Acting U.S. Representative to the UN Economic and Social Council. In that role, he led the U.S. team responsible for economic, social, humanitarian, and human rights issues at the UN in New York. Austin previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy under Ambassador Nikki Haley, focusing on UN Security Council policy including North Korea sanctions, UN peacekeeping and democracy in Africa, and Israel/Palestinian affairs.
Prior to his time in federal service, Austin was Deputy Chief of Staff for Cabinet to then Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley, and he formerly practiced law, representing businesses and individuals in tort defense and commercial litigation.
Austin earned both his undergraduate and law degree at the University of South Carolina.
