Challenge

With just three percent of its population having reliable access to power, the Central African Republic has one of the lowest rates of electrification in the world. In addition to limiting the quality of life, this lack of electricity restrains economic growth, as well as access to telecommunications services.

Solution and Impact

DFC provided financing and political risk insurance to SunFunder’s Solar Energy Transformation Fund, which will be supporting a loan to finance the modernization and conversion of diesel-fueled telecommunications towers across the Central African Republic to run on solar power.
